Former professional bullfighter Gary “Roach” Hedeman, and the pet bucking bull Bill, will be in town visiting local elementary schools and using the opportunity to spread the message that “bullying” is not acceptable behavior. Hedeman brings Bill and his story to four local elementary schools with the help of the Teachers Federal Credit Union and the annual Casa Ford Tuff Hedeman Bull Riding presented by Sunland Park Racetrack and Casino, scheduled for Saturday night at the El Paso County Coliseum.
Bill is No Bully is a story about a bull that doesn’t fit in. The other bulls in the pasture, famous bucking bulls, are mean to Bill. When Bill takes a different path he is met with resistance. The book, written and illustrated by Cindy Hedeman, is part of an anti-bullying presentation that makes use of a live bull to interact with the children.
“Bill is No Bully is a great tool to communicate with kids while at the same time increasing awareness about bullying in schools and in life,” said Hedeman.
The real-life Bill is a 4-year-old Charolais-Brahma bred bull raised and owned by the Hedeman family. Gary Hedeman who grew up in El Paso now resides in North Texas, created the program with Cindy Hedeman, who wrote and animated the children’s book.
